Waste landfill biogas recovery project in Iran and converting it into energy

Waste management of Iran in 1999 for the first time executed recovery of biogases in 18 torches in landfill of Iran and in 2005 started researches with cooperation of new energies organization of Iran on possibility to establish a 0ne megawatt biogas power station for at least 13 years and it was approved to sell producing electricity to the regionalpower company. This project was operated in 2007 and it started operating in 2009.

Objectives of biogas

  • Organizing gases from Anaerobicreactionof organic substancescontained inwaste
  • Maintenance of environment
  • Rreducing greenhouse gases
  • Finding appropriate replacement for fossil fuel such as oil and
  • Decreasing pollution such as carbon dioxide
  • Producing electricity
  • Designing patterns for cities and countries and wherever human lives and produces waste.

Biogas in Iran

With regard to dangers of anaerobic landfill gases and to avoid pollution of underground waters and explosion of these gases (Methane, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and etc), for the first time in country in 1999, 18 tones of wastage buried in two layers in a sink with dimension of 2.5*2.5*6 and A biogas recovery operation began for the first time. And a gas generator and several lamps and an oven and a water heater started working with this gases and operation.
